Our Philosophy

At Birchwood kindergarten relationships/whanaungatanga, are at the heart of everything we do. Responsive, reciprocal, respectful, relationships are fostered through positive interactions and a welcoming and friendly environment that values each families’ language, identity and culture and shows manaakitanga. Te Tiriti o Waitangi is honoured by acknowledging and respecting the bicultural heritage of Aoteroa New Zealand.
We support interpersonal relationships and encourage children to care for, help, teach and learn from one another through the process of ako/teaching/learning. Our programme and environment provide opportunities for planned and spontaneous activities which encourage children’s developing capacity to view themselves as capable, confident and life-long learners and participants in a 21st  century world.
