Volunteer and Placement Process

Students

Secondary School Students

Secondary students volunteering at NTK must complete a 7-point safety check before starting, which includes a police vet (processing times may vary).

School coordinators typically complete parts of this process and have received a checklist, including referee questions.

  • If your school has not received the checklist, please contact us.

  • Forms may be sent directly from the school, or if you receive them, forward them to info@ntk.org.nz along with:

    • Completed Support Staff/Volunteer Interview Safety Questions

    • Pages 2 & 3 of the Police Vetting Form completed by the student

    • A copy of the student’s Primary & Secondary ID (see ID Verification section for acceptable forms and notes)

Tertiary Students

Tertiary students must have completed safety checks with their training provider in line with the Vulnerable Children’s Act.

  • You should have received a letter from the provider confirming these checks.

  • Please send a copy of this letter to info@ntk.org.nz, along with:

    • Completed Support Staff/Volunteer Interview Safety Questions

    • A copy of the student’s Primary & Secondary ID (see ID Verification section for acceptable forms and notes)

ID Verification

Take photocopies of the prospective staff member’s ID. You must collect:

  • 1 primary form of ID (must be photographic)

  • 1 secondary form of ID

Important Notes:

  • All ID must be current and not expired.

  • If copying a driver’s licence, copy both sides.

  • All copies must be signed, dated, and marked “sighted original”.

  • If the names on the primary and secondary ID differ, provide a supporting name change document.

Step 6: Collect Completed Forms

Gather all documents completed by the prospective staff member:

  • Application Form

  • CV

  • Employment Details Form

  • Pages 2 & 3 of the Police Vet Form

  • IR330 Form

  • KiwiSaver Form (if applicable)

Step 7: Conduct Referee Check

Use the form below to carry out a referee check.

  • Ideally, contact their most recent employer.

  • If the Head Teacher is the referee, ask your SEA or Head Teacher of Relievers to conduct the questions on your behalf.

  • Record a summary of their responses on the form provided.

Story Grans and Volunteers

Before a volunteer can start at your kindergarten, we must have a clear police vet and completed safety questions.
